Chrislam..??!!

Watched this disturbing video today. Most evangelicals will brush this off as, "Oh, well that's the Methodists. What do you expect?" I believe this attitude is naive and foolish. Yesterday I read an account of the recent Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in AZ, where "Rick Warren made a surprise appearance". He is seen as some sort of demi-god in most SBC circles. I have a strong distaste for "Christian" celebrity. Anyway, my point is...Rick Warren, a SBC pastor of megachurch Saddleback Church in CA, has been partnering with Leonard Sweet since at least 1994.

Leonard Sweet is a New Age Mystic, embraces the metaphysical and insists we are all "already one", we must realize it. He means we are one spiritually. He is a pawn in events now rushing headlong toward a One World Religion and a One World Government. He is also....Methodist.

In Sweet's 2001 book, Soul Tsunami, Warren gives an endorsement that sits on the back as well as on the front cover of the book. Of the book, Warren says:


"Leonard Sweet ... suggests practical ways to communicate God's unchanging truth to our changing world."1
"Some of these "practical ways" include using a labyrinth and visiting a meditation center." (quote from Crossroads)

In the famous words of Dr. Ian Malcom...."I'm fairly alarmed here."

The Cry of My Heart

This is one of the thousands of choruses sung all over now. I don't hate it. In fact, it's one of my most favorite things ever to hear Elaine Short play on the piano. But, as I was reading in Deuteronomy yesterday I was compelled to re-read some of the passages that I may have given less than my full attention to. And, boy, am I glad I did. I heard the cry of God's heart.

"O that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them,, and with their children forever."  Deut. 5:29

It broke my own heart. Seeing God's heart laid bare like that. Seeing how I am one of those stiff-necked people who runs from the Hound of Heaven, doesn't fear Him, doesn't keep all His commandments. My heart fell at the feet of the Lord. 

So this is the cry of my heart.  

O Lord, would that I would have such a heart in me. A heart that fears you, loves you, obeys you. 

 

  

Happy New Year!

It's already February, but it's still feels like a new year to me, so that's my topic. I still have to finalize my 2011 Goals. Then I need to publish them to my kids and invite people to join me on some of em. Here's what I have so far:

1.  Read the Bible minimum of 5 days/week
2.  I really want to try to read it 40 minutes/day twice/day, which would be about 10% of every 24 hrs.
3.  Read Bible through, KJV with Karen Lynn
4.  Memorize Colossians
5.  Learn to golf
6.  Learn 2 hymns & 2 Christmas carols on my dulcimer
7.  Learn the cello
8.  Read 2 classics - have book talks
9.  Read 2 Christian biographies - have book talks
10. Re-read The Normal Christian Life & read all of Mere Christianity - have book talks
11. File old papers
12. Re-organize/clean mechanical room
13. Paint/decorate upstairs toy room & laundry room
14. Clean downstairs desk
15. New kitchen countertop, sink/faucet, & light fixtures
16. Organized system for Gran Time
17. List 1000+ gifts
18. Keep up with birthday cards

OK. I think that's about it. Sigh! Just getting it in writing helps me! Gonna send this tomorrow - get input for the classics and biographies choices. Who's with me on the 2 classics? Any suggestions? The 2 biographies...suggestions? The Normal C.L. and Mere Christianity and subsequent booktalks? Follow me and comment! Humor me...I won't be around forever.

Suddenly Dumbstruck

I thought I had to alot to say....and now here I am with....zip. Mostly I am having fun choosing fonts and colors and layouts and gadgets. Once I'm done with that, I'll have more....surely. Eventually, I will have a spot on here that features my current projects and I'll talk about what's on my mind and hope to hear what's on yours...and what books I'm reading, and hear what you're reading...and travel, and where you've been....and...stuff!  So, an online conversation of sorts. That sounds like fun to me, and I'm ready to get started!
